Benjamin Thinnes, NP
Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
Ben Thinnes is a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with over 25 years of clinical experience, spanning emergency departments, patient safety leadership, and outpatient psychiatric care at Progeny Psychiatric Clinic. He specializes in treating adolescents and adults with anxiety, depression, trauma, and mood disorders, using a collaborative, person-centered approach rooted in cognitive-behavioral strategies, mindfulness, and trauma-informed care.

He views psychiatry as both a science and an art—one that demands curiosity, humility, and the ability to listen without judgment. Recognizing that no two clients are alike, Ben is committed to creating a therapeutic environment that feels safe, respectful, and empowering.

Outside of clinical practice, Ben finds renewal in the outdoors, whether surfing along the coast, mountain biking on local trails, or enjoying the stillness of nature. A former soccer player—retired by age but not in spirit—he carries a team-oriented mindset into his work. These pursuits keep him grounded, energized, and aligned with the core values he brings to his practice: presence, resilience, and the joy of movement.
